Winter Academy For Goalies

Sniper Camp and The Steve Valiquette Goaltending School are teaming up for an exiting new winter development program.  Our concept is to bring shooters and goalies together on the ice simultaneously and cover all facets of situational shooting and scoring. Shooters and goalies will be exposed to and taught both perspectives.  This camp model is a fantastic way for goalies to get a glimpse into the minds of the shooter.  As goalies we NEED to know what the shooters options are and what they are trying to accomplish. Learning to read and anticipate the game is a crucial element of goalie development.   There is limited opportunity to learn this element from specialized instructors in Connecticut.  As a result, Connecticut has produced very few professional goalies. Winter Academy is a great opportunity to learn how to read the ice and react to the most challenging types of shots you'll face in a game.

The two goalie per session limit translates to a perfect 1 to 1 work to rest ratio.  The bonus ice is an invaluable asset which gives goalies ample opportunity to practice your skating or take breakaways and extra shots from shooters.  Focused repetition in conjunction with personalized instruction is the most effective way to improve your skills. The merger of Sniper Camp with The Steve Valiquette Goaltending School for the Winter Academy is a rare opportunity for young goalies to get specialized in-season instruction.

After speaking with hundreds of parents, players, and coaches we developed this academy based on their most pressing needs.

Our formula is based upon four major components:

Quality Instruction

Jeff Hamilton, a former NHL player and Yale’s all-time leading scorer will be the Head Instructor. He will be joined by former New York Ranger goalie Steve Valiquette. We feel strongly that having a former NHL goaltender’s insight is an invaluable asset for this academy.  Steve is a highly successful and nationally recognized goalie instructor. Guest coaches from colleges, prep schools and the OHL will also join us.

Personalized Attention

Many kids fall through the cracks at standard camps due to the overwhelming number of players on the ice. Semi-Private sessions will consist of 1 or 2 goalies. We are limiting memberships to only 4 goalies per age group so we can develop and maintain personal relationships with players and parents.

Flexible Scheduling

How many camps have you missed because you couldn’t fit them into your schedule? We solved that problem. The schedule is up to you!

Ice Quantity

Traditional 5 day camps aren’t long enough to generate repetition driven skill development. The Academy is offering you 25 hours of ice time: 10 hours of semi-private instruction plus 15 hours of bonus ice. Bonus ice is perfect for extra skill work and taking shots and breakaways from other members.  It’s like having your own rink!

How it works
The semi-private sessions and bonus ice will be grouped according to age. Bantams and midgets will be grouped together then mites, squirts and pee wees will be separate groups. After registration you will receive a password to access your Academy schedule on www.snipercamp.com. Once there, you will be able to pick the times and dates of your semi-private sessions and bonus ice.  Each age group will have 5 available sessions per week to choose from.  You will have the ability to schedule some or all of your sessions depending on your schedule.  The schedule will remain active throughout the academy so that you may add dates or change existing ones. Sniper Camp has reserved an excess of ice time to provide members with ample flexibility. Members have between November 13th and March 2nd to use all of their 25 hours. Bonus ice is free ice for Academy members only. 
The schedule is as follows for semi-private sessions and bonus ice (there are 2 rinks). A maximum of 2 goalies may sign up for each hour.  You must schedule sessions at least 5 days in advance!

Please note.  Semi-Private goalies sessions must be scheduled on Fridays or Sundays.
Mites and Pee Wees will always have bonus ice available AFTER the semi-private session.
Squirts, Bantams, and Midgets will always have bonus ice available BEFORE the semi-private session.
Bonus ice can be scheduled anytime.
